Telecoms

Modern telecommunications networks are fundamental to the development, especially in Emerging Market countries, many of which were underinvested.

In many ways lack of the existing old style networks presents the unique opportunity to ensure construction of networks, that are cost efficient in terms of both set-up cost and in terms of the usage.

Frontier markets also present special challanges in terms of size and large dispersion of populations, including lack of interconnecting fibreoptic network technologies.  For instance in midland Africa it is often essential to use satellite technology.

It should be also noted that telecommunication markets also present a unique high margin business, and as the result are usually popular with the investors, both in terms of debt and equity.  After all emerging markets, being more risky countries, in the first instance attract activities that offer investors a significant opportunity for returns.
